Dear Progressive Secretary Supporter

Here is a new Progressive Secretary letter.

This letter supports an action by the ACLU. They urge the Senate to pass the Voting Rights Advancement Act of 2019 (VRAA). The Leadership Conference on Civil and Human Rights, a coalition of more than 200 civil and human rights organizations, and others also urge passage of the Act.

The VRAA provides protections against voting discrimination to compensate for the loss of Section 4 of the Voting Rights Act.

We will send your letter-emails to your Senators (the House passed the VRAA in December 2019).

Please pass the Voting Rights Advancement Act of 2019, S. 561. The VRAA will protect our right to vote and defend us against discrimination.

After the removal of critical protections from the Voting Rights Act of 1965, various states have engaged in voter suppression without fear of consequence. They have often targeted people of color using voter purges and restraints on voter registration.

Congress must renew vital voting protections found in the VRAA. The House has already passed it, and it’s past time for the Senate to act.

I strongly urge you to pass the Voting Rights Advancement Act now.
