Dear Progressive Secretary Supporter

Here is a new Progressive Secretary letter.

This letter supports an action by the AFL-CIO, the National Nurses United and Daily KOS. It asks Congress to pass the COVID-19 Health Care Worker Protection Act of 2020 (H.R. 6139). The bill directs OSHA to issue an Emergency Temporary Standard within 30 days that sets requirements for how workplaces must safeguard health care workers.

Other organizations supporting this legislation include the National Employment Law Project, American Federation of Teachers, Communications Workers of America, and The National Association of Social Workers. We will send your letter to your U.S. Representative

Please support the “COVID-19 Worker Protection Act of 2020” (H.R. 6139). Protecting healthcare workers is critical to our ability to respond to this emergency.

The CDC can’t issue binding proposals, and OSHA has no enforceable standards to protect workers from airborne infectious diseases. Thus, healthcare workers are at an elevated risk of coronavirus exposure.

H.R. 6139 directs OSHA to issue an Emergency Temporary Standard for how workplaces safeguard healthcare workers against the spread of the coronavirus. OSHA ordinarily covers only private employers, but this legislation also applies to public hospital workers.

H.R. 6139 also protects healthcare workers from future health emergencies. It requires OSHA to issue permanent standards.

Please support H.R. 6139, the “COVID-19 Worker Protection Act of 2020.”.
