Dear Progressive Secretary Supporter

Here is a new Progressive Secretary letter.

This action supports a campaign by the Natural Resources Defense Council.

We will submit your comments to the Secretary of the Department of the Interior, David L. Bernhardt, and to the New Mexico office of the Bureau of Land Management. All comments are public records, and we will not include your street address in your submissions.

Comments are due by May 28, 2020.

This letter is my official comment opposing your proposal to expand fracking and drilling in the Greater Chaco region, near Chaco Culture National Historical Park (Docket: DOI-BLM-NM-F010-2017-0128-RMP-EIS).

The Park is a UNESCO World Heritage Site, sacred to Native Americans, with significant ruins and artifacts. Chaco is also a popular international tourist destination and a recognized site for stargazing.

By opening more lands to oil and gas companies, your plan increases air and water pollution to levels that could exceed healthy limits for nearby inhabitants. The proposal fails to consider the impacts of drilling and fracking on climate, air and water quality, human health, and sacred cultural sites.

I strongly urge you to withdraw this draft management plan amendment. Instead, move to protect public lands in Greater Chaco and other parts of America.
