Dear Progressive Secretary Supporter

Here is a new Progressive Secretary letter.

This letter supports actions by the ACLU, Human Rights Campaign, Freedom for All Americans, and others. It asks the Senate to pass the “Equality Act,” which will finally provide comprehensive nationwide nondiscrimination protections for LGBTQ people. This law means that all people will be treated equally under the law.

The House passed the “Equality Act” on February 25th; the Senate Judiciary Committee held a hearing on March 17th. We will send your letters to your Senators

Make equality real for every person. Vote for H.R. 5, the “Equality Act.”

This bill amends the 1964 “Civil Rights Act” to prevent discrimination based on sexual orientation and gender identity. It covers discrimination in employment and housing and includes discrimination in federally-funded programs such as public accommodations.

The “Equality Act” extends basic, broadly accepted tenets of the “Civil Rights Act” to people that the law doesn’t currently and explicitly protect. It covers the nearly-30 states that do not have LGBTQ anti-discrimination laws.

The “Equality Act” does not force anyone to do anything except not discriminate. Please show your support for “equality under the law” by voting for H.R. 5, the “Equality Act.”
