Dear Progressive Secretary Supporter

Here is another letter from Progressive Secretary.

This letter supports campaigns by the NAACP and various other voting rights organizations. It asks Congress to pass the John R. Lewis Voting Rights Act. (NOTE: The John R. Lewis Voting Rights Act hasn't yet been introduced. Rep. Terri Sewell is building momentum for the legislation.)

Under the Voting Rights Act, municipalities with a history of discrimination had to get federal approval for new voting laws. The Supreme Court gutted that requirement. The John R. Lewis Voting Rights Act will restore this critical review process.

We will send your email messages to your Senators and your Representative

Democracy in the U.S.A. is no guarantee.

The Supreme Court gutted the 1965 Voting Rights Act, and as a result, many states are restricting voting. Congress must pass the “John R. Lewis Voting Rights Act” as soon as it reaches the House and Senate.

The “John R. Lewis Voting Rights Act” is our chance to restore and strengthen the freedom to vote for all Americans, particularly voters of color. It is an essential supplement to S. 1 (the “For the People Act”), which we also need now more than ever.

Don’t let the filibuster stop the passage of comprehensive democracy reform to strengthen our elections. Please support and sponsor the “John R. Lewis Voting Rights Act” and vote “Yea” when it reaches the floor.
