Dear Progressive Secretary Supporter

Here is another letter from Progressive Secretary.

This letter supports campaigns by the NAACP, American Progress, Human Rights Campaign, Human Rights Watch, American Sustainable Business Council, Everytown for Gun Safety, and others. It asks the Senate to pass H.R. 1280, the “George Floyd Justice in Policing Act” (it passed in the House on 3-3-2021).

This legislation will make the prosecution of police misconduct easier, expand federal oversight into local police units, limit bias among officers, and change policing tactics.

We will send your email message to your Senators

With impunity, the police brutalize too many citizens.  H.R. 1280, the “George Floyd Justice in Policing Act of 2021,” starts to address these problems in four ways: It enables the prosecution of police misconduct, expands federal oversight into local police units, fights bias among officers, and improves policing tactics.

H.R. 1280 will create a national database of police misconduct and require federal law enforcement officials to use body cameras. It will also ban such officials from using chokeholds or no-knock warrants in drug cases.

We have to ensure that the police protect and serve the public — otherwise, they are no different from a dangerous gang. Do that by voting for H.R. 1280.
