Dear Progressive Secretary Supporter,
Here is another action alert from Progressive Secretary. Our letter supports campaigns by People For the American Way, Social Security Works, Americans for Tax Fairness Action Fund, Coalition On Human Needs, and others. We need to expand and strengthen Social Security since half of its beneficiaries depend on it. We can do that by uncapping the payroll tax that funds it. Click here to send this letter or to learn more (you can edit the letter in the next step, if you wish).
It asks Congress to craft legislation to expand benefits, extend the lifespan of the trust fund, and pay for it by making the rich pay their fair share.
We will send the following email message to your Senators and your Representative:
Social Security taxes the poor more than the rich, which makes no sense. The SS payroll tax only applies to the first $137,700 in wages, while a fifth of Americans already earn more than that. That payroll tax cap makes a worker earning $50,000 pay a 6.2% tax rate to Social Security, while someone making a million per year pays only 0.8%.
Please support the Social Security Expansion Act to address this inequity while improving the lives of millions of senior citizens.
Kathie Turner, Executive Director
