Dear Progressive Secretary Supporter

Here is another action alert from Progressive Secretary.

Our letter supports campaigns by Public Citizen, Civic Shout, Daily Kos, The People United, Progressive Reform Network, Coalition on Human Needs, and many other organizations. It asks the Senate to pass the “Assault Weapons Ban of 2022.”

We will send your email messages to your Senators. This bill passed in the House on July 29, 2022, 217-213. Click here for the roll call vote information

All Americans, including teenagers, have ready access to assault weapons.

Congress banned these weapons from 1994 to 2004. Before 1994, the proportion of deaths in mass shootings where the assailant used an assault rifle was lower than today. However, mass shooting deaths were steadily rising.

During the 1994-2004 ban, the number of deaths from mass shootings fell, and the increase in the annual number of incidents slowed. After the ban expired, the data show an almost immediate, steep rise in mass shooting deaths. When the ban expired, Congress didn’t reinstate it even though the data shows it was highly effective.

Please don’t wait any longer to protect Americans. Pass an assault weapons ban now.
