Tell Congress: Don’t Rob Immigrant Families in the Tax Deal!
Hands off the Child Tax Credit!
Before they leave Washington for the holidays, Republicans are trying to score political points by going out of their way to harm hardworking immigrant families. Congress is tasked with extending a tax break for working and middle-class Americans before the end of the year. Rather than passing a “clean bill” to extend the tax break, Republicans are going back to the anti-immigrant playbook even if it means harming U.S. citizen children.
The Republican tax plan would deny immigrant taxpayers who use an Individual Taxpayer Identification Number (ITIN) from claiming the Child Tax Credit for their citizen children. The Child Tax Credit is one of the most effective anti-poverty tools for working families. Robbing tax-paying workers of this critical credit would drive more than two million families closer to poverty.
Tell your senators: Hands off the Child Tax Credit! Pass a clean tax package that keeps families out of poverty.
Members of Congress know they need to pass a tax package before the end of the year to protect our fragile economic recovery. Picking the pockets of tax-paying immigrants to pay for it is not only disgraceful, it keeps families in poverty and takes $10 billion out of our economy.
Send a letter to your senators urging them to preserve eligibility for the Child Tax Credit to help struggling families and our economy.
