HELP: EDUCATION BILL SB6 PASSES BOTH HOUSES
It was 2:30 A.M. on April 9 when the Florida House passed SB6. Members voted against all amendments presented; if any had been adopted, the bill would have been sent back to the Senate. So, many very good amendments were rejected.
Members have been deluged with phone calls and emails opposing this bill. The vote was 64-55 in favor of the bill. It is now on the Governor's desk.
We are asking all League members to contact Governor Crist and ask him to veto the bill. He has 7 days from the time the bill is received from the legislature to veto it, sign it into law, or let it become law without his signature. Time is of the essence. Call today.

The League opposes this bill because it requires all teachers be retained, certified and compensated based on student test scores on standardized tests -- not years of experience or degrees held. It abolishes the program that rewards teachers who become National Board Certified Teachers. It would also penalize school districts financially if they consider length of service or degrees held when determining compensation or reductions in force. While initially saying he supported the bill, Governor Crist now says he has concerns about it. The League of Women Voters of Florida urges the Governor to veto this bill.
Please call or e-mail Governor Crist and tell him to VETO Senate Bill 6.
