Legislators in Annapolis are currently debating a proposal from Governor O’Malley to shift hundreds of millions in teacher pension costs from the state to the county governments. A pension shift would cost Montgomery County $47 million in FY 13 and is expected to total $351 million in the first five years. Shifting the pension liability to any county in Maryland will devastate to county workers. It will mean cuts in our workforce and the critical services that we provide. It is the state that controls the pension and determines pension benefits. It is the state that underfunded the pension and now they want the counties to pay the bill! Join with your union to STOP THE SHIFT. If you have any additional questions please contact your field representative or call Josh Ardison at the union offices 301-977-2447.
We will lobby state legislators to stop this devastation!
